Your dreams can help you fix your life
Dreams are a mechanism for success

Dreams have power. As mysterious as they can be, they are a real mechanism for our deep inner self to speak to us and help us get our lives on track. Over the years of seeking out higher possibilities in my life, I have developed a high regard for the role of dreams in the success model.

As such, I recently made a point of meeting someone whose life path had been dramatically altered by a dream. Golden Nongawuz told me a how a dream helped him survive in the city against all odds. The story opens at a time when he was slogging the streets, willing to do any work just to get food.

Sometimes he got lucky, and managed to get a small project as a labourer, but for most, his job search yielded little. Then one night he dreamt that that there were yellow and white flowers growing on the local rubbish dump. He heard a voice say 'make flowers and you will get money!'.

Next day he went to the dump, but saw no flowers. He told his wife about the about the dream, but she scorned him saying 'you're just lazy and you're a liar! So Golden went back to waiting on the side of the road. Next day he had the same dream, as powerful and clear as before. Once again he heard a voice say 'make flowers'.

Once again he shared the dream with this wife, and she scorned him, and so again he went looking for a job. But on the third night Golden was visited by the dream again. Finally Golden told a friend who became convinced it was God speaking to him. And so Golden listened and set out to make his first yellow flower. What materials did he use? Discarded cans picked up from the dump!

I have one of those yellow flowers in my office. Golden's business cards are printed in, amongst other languages, German and Dutch. His flower business is on the tourist route. He has buyers from Japan, America and Australia. He has supported his family for years – making tin flowers in Khayelitsha.

Down the ages the history books are peppered with accounts of men and women whose destiny was shaped by dreams. The man who invented the sewing machine was given some of the design in a dream, so was the inventor of the telegraph. Joseph, with his coat of many colours, saw his future in dream form. Recently a guest of the Oprah show shared how she dreamed that she should check her breast for cancer. She did, and discovered a malignant lump.

In my early days in this career, I set out to write various motivational training courses. At the time I had absolutely no experience in training, neither facilitation, nor course development. But as I journeyed into my 'dream job', I was given information on what to do - in my dreams. And whenever I ran out of ideas, I would take a nap, and would dream the way forward.

The courses I designed like this blew me away. The results they achieved were phenomenal: A rep who was not selling well, jumped to 600% of target. People gave up smoking, healed their relationships and opened exciting new businesses. Wow, all this, through the power of dreams!

Dreams are not confined to random data crunching. Dreams are significant. They hold some higher truth. Trust the mystical power of your dreams. Who knows, you might be the next role model for your community or even unlock the cure for aids!
